After a seven-game losing streak to open the 2025 season, the Atlanta Braves and their fans can finally exhale. A 10-0 rout of the Miami Marlins in the team’s home opener at Truist Park gave Atlanta their first victory of the season. Second-year starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach pitched eight innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits and recording 10 strikeouts. Schwellenbach built off of his strong outing last weekend in San Diego and hopes to assert himself as Atlanta’s next homegrown ace with the offseason departure of Max Fried and the anticipated return of Spencer Strider.
However, the story of the night for the Braves was their offense. The bats woke up after a grueling first week of the season, scoring 10 runs and recording 16 hits. Marcell Ozuna opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run double off Max Meyer. An RBI single by Austin Riley gave the Braves a 3-0 lead. Back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the seventh by Ozuna and first baseman Matt Olson extended the Atlanta lead to five. A five-run frame in the eighth put the Marlins away for good, thanks to four RBI singles from Olson, Riley, Ozzie Albies, and rookie catcher Drake Baldwin. It was the first RBI of Badwin’s career.
AJ Smith-Shawver will make his second start of the season on Saturday night back at Truist. He will face Cal Quantrill as the Braves look to win their second straight game and clinch their first series win of the season.

● CF Michael Harris recorded three hits in the leadoff spot.
● Riley was hit by a pitch on his hand in the bottom of the fifth. Nonetheless, he remained in the game. Notably, he was hit by a pitch on his right hand last August, fracturing the hand and causing him to miss the remainder of the season. It is the 50th time in his career in which he has been hit by a pitch, tying current Braves OF Ronald Acuña Jr. for the 8th most in franchise history.
● Seven different Braves recorded at least one hit.
● Schwellenbach took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, which was broken up thanks to a single by Liam Hicks.
