The Washington Commanders have made a significant splash by acquiring running back Austin Ekeler reinforcing their backfield. Ekeler, a former undrafted rookie turned to one of the top NFL running back, brings a unique combination of efficiency, versatility, and work ethic that will elevate the entire team.
Silencing Critics and Embracing a New Role
Austin Ekeler has shut down the critics about his former team the Los Angeles chargers saying that he does not want a heavy work load. It’s just that he is both efficient at running the ball and catching the ball. Ekeler has been a touchdown machine since 2021, leading the NFL with 44 scrimmage touchdowns – 30 on the ground and 14 through the air. However, his 2023 season was somewhat of a disappointment, with 1,064 scrimmage yards and six scrimmage touchdowns, a relatively low output by his lofty standards. But injuries made him miss games.
Reuniting with Anthony Lynn
The familiarity between Ekeler and his former head coach, now running back coach, Anthony Lynn, will be a significant advantage. Their established relationship will allow Ekeler to hit the ground running, literally. Lynn’s guidance will help Ekeler settle into his new role alongside Brian Robinson, giving the Commanders’ offense a fresh look.
Security Blanket for Jayden Daniels
Ekeler’s presence will provide quarterback Jayden Daniels with a reliable security blanket. His ability to make plays both on the ground and in the air will take pressure off Daniels, allowing him to have less worries.
Work Ethic and Leadership
Ekeler’s renowned work ethic will undoubtedly rub off on his teammates, setting a high standard for the entire team. His leadership and experience will be invaluable assets to the Commanders as they strive to become a top contender in the NFL.
