Minnesota United FC took on the visiting FC Dallas at Allianz Field Saturday night. The Loons were in 3rd place in the Western Conference and FC Dallas in thirteenth (2nd to last in the Western Conference). Minnesota grabbed an early lead in the ninth minute on a beautifully placed goal by Hassani Dotson (assisted by Bongokuhle Hlongwane).
It did not take long for Dallas to respond with an answering goal in minute fifteen by Midfielder Liam Fraser outside the box (assisted by Asier Illarramendi). Dallas has struggled so far this season, but were able to make things difficult for Minnesota the rest of the match. The same could be said from the Loons perspective. Defense kept the squad in the game and gave them a chance at three points.
Unfortunately, that second goal never came for either team. The match ended in a 1-1 tie, but Minnesota picks up a crucial point that puts them in a tie for second in the west with LAFC (who they split wins in their last 2 matches against each other). Only two yellow cards issued in this match. Both being given to Minnesota (Fragapane 43′ &Trapp 45′). As physical as the match was, it never became out of control.
The Loons go back on the road as they will travel to Seattle (who is in the group with Minnesota in this year’s Leagues Cup) to face a Saturday night match versus their conference rival. It will be a 9:30pm CST start time.
