Shout Out Minnesota Sports Recaps The Twins vs Red Sox Series
The Twins came into the series with the Red Sox on a 10-game winning streak. Sweeping 3 consecutive series (White Sox (2), Angels). Chris Paddock & Pablo Lopez shutdown Boston’s offense allowing only 1 run and striking out 14 between the two. Minnesota did enough to win games 1 & 2 with 8 hits in each game powered by Jeffers, Kepler, and Castro.
By the time game three of the series started, Minnesota had already won the series, were on the verge of a fourth consecutive series sweep and had won 12 consecutive games. With Joe Ryan on the mound, the Twins had a good chance to complete another sweep and win their thirteenth consecutive game. Ryan Jeffers HR in the Bottom of the 3rd inning gave Minnesota a 1-0 advantage, but former Twin Rob Refsnyder answered with an RBI double in the 4th inning that tied the game. It all came unraveled after that with Boston scoring eight more runs to snap Minnesota’s 12 game win streak. Red sox snap a 3-game skid of their own with a win at Target Field Sunday afternoon 9-2.
In the span of the last 12 games the Minnesota Twins outscored their opponents 84-39 and margin of victory 5+ runs in five of those twelve games. They went from second last place in the American League Central to second place. Quite the turnaround for what was a struggling offense. Some key players returning from injury also contributed (Kepler & Correa) to the boost in offensive production.
The Twins continue their homestand as the American League West leading Seattle Mariners come to town for a four-game series starting on Monday May 6th.
