The twins came into the series on a 4-game losing streak and were hoping to finally turn things around back home at Target Field. The bats started to finally generate some offense in game one, but unfortunately so did the visiting Tigers. Joe Ryan took the mound and was less than stellar in his performance giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs (along with his 6 strikeouts). Even though Minnesota came from behind twice in this game, they couldn’t do it a third time and lost 5-4.
Game two pitching was much better as Bailey Ober pitched 6 solid innings giving up only one earned run. The Twins bullpen did enough to hold on for the win and end a 5-game skid. Three out of the four runs scored came by way of a sac-fly. Minnesota gets the much-needed win in a 4-3 victory.
Game three of the series, Minnesota’s offense was non-existent. The Twins couldn’t figure out Tigers pitcher Casey Mize. Six shutout innings. The only Minnesota run in the game came as a solo HR in the 9th inning by Twins outfielder Austin Martin. Louie Varland could not find the strike zone. With 39 pitches in the first inning and 30+ pitches in the second inning. Varland gave up a 2-run HR to Buddy Kennedy and Rocco had seen enough after 2.2 IP. Twins fall to Detroit and lose the series to go to 7-13 on the season.
The Twins continue their homestand as the American League central last place Chicago White Sox come into town for a four-game series beginning Monday night.
